Questions and answers
Short answers to the questions that players ask most often. If your question is not here, write to us at [email protected].
Getting started
Is CashCities free?
Yes. The game is free to play in your browser. It shows ads to pay for the servers. You never need to pay to play or to win.
Do I need an account or a download?
No. Type a name and play. Your browser keeps a random ID, so you can reload the page and keep your seat.
How do I play with friends?
Choose Play with friends on the home page. This makes a private room. Copy the invite link and send it to your friends, or tell them the room code, which they type on the home page. Only people with the link or the code can join a private room.
Can I play alone?
Yes. Add bots to your room. There are eight, and each has its own name and its own way to play, which you learn by playing against it. The dots beside a name show how strong it is. When you choose Play now, the game puts you in a public room, and if nobody else joins for 25 seconds, bots take the empty seats, up to four players in all. The host can turn off bots.
How many players can play?
From 2 to 8. A new room has 4 seats, and the host can change this before the game starts.
How long is a game?
It depends on the board and on how fast everyone plays. In our test games between four bots, a game took about 210 turns on World, 230 on Grand Tour, 260 on Big Leagues and 135 on Jackpot. For a shorter game, pick Jackpot, or give everyone more starting cash: with $3,000, games on World were about 8% shorter than with $1,500. Less starting cash makes games longer, because players build later.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The game runs in the browser of your phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to install.

What happens if I lose my connection?
Your seat waits for you for 2 minutes during a game, and for 30 seconds in a room that has not started. Open the game again in the same browser, and you are back in your seat. The turn clock keeps running while you are away.
How does the turn clock work?
With the Turn clock rule, each turn starts with 20 seconds of free time. After that, the time comes from your time bank. The bank starts with 1 minute and holds up to 3 minutes. After each turn, it gets back 6 to 20 seconds, and a quick turn gets back more. When your cash is below $0, your free time is 1 minute, so you can sell or trade. Other players can give you one more minute, up to two times in each turn. The clock stops during auctions.
When your time runs out, the game skips your turn. If you are in debt, the game sells for you, and if that is not enough, you go bankrupt. If you run out of time on 3 turns in a row, the game removes you, and your properties go back to the bank.
Can I watch a game?
Yes. If you open the link of a game that has started, you watch it live. You can join the next game in that room.
Can I change the rules?
The host can change the board, the seats and every rule before the game starts. The full rules list each house rule.
Fair play
Can we remove a player who stops playing?
Yes. On that player's turn, the other players can vote to remove them. More than half of the human players must vote. With the turn clock, you can vote only after they run out of time once, and only when there are at least three human players; with two, the clock removes an absent player. Without the turn clock, a vote also starts a 5-minute countdown: if the player has not ended their turn when it ends, they leave the game. In a private room with a turn clock, the host can also remove a player on their turn after they run out of time once.
How do I report a player?
Click the player in the player list and choose Report. Pick the reason, for example harassment, cheating, stalling or an offensive name. We get the report with a few of their recent chat messages, and we act on it. In the same menu you can mute the player, so that you no longer see their chat. Names and chat messages with bad words are blocked automatically.
Safety and money
Is the money in the game real?
No. Game money has no value. You cannot buy it, sell it or exchange it for anything.
What do ads unlock?
Some faces unlock when you choose to watch a short ad. Faces only change how your piece looks. They give no advantage in the game.
Can children play?
Yes. Before the first game, we ask your age. Players under 13 play with limits that protect them: the game picks their name, they chat only with ready-made messages, and they see fewer ads, which are not personalized. The privacy policy explains what we collect.
