What we process
- The nickname you type.
- A random ID that your browser keeps. It opens your profile, and a refresh does not cost you your seat.
- Your chat messages. They stay in server memory and disappear when the room closes. We count messages, but we do not keep what you write, unless another player reports you.
- Your IP address, to limit abuse and in short-lived server logs.
- Reports you send about other players, with the player's name and a few of their recent chat messages, so we can act on them. We keep a report for 6 months.
Your profile
Your profile keeps your nickname, color, face, the faces you unlocked, whether you are under 13, and one short line for each game you finish: the day, the board, how many players and bots there were, your place and how the game ended. It does not keep the time of the game, the names of the other players or a link to the game record. It is on our server, and the random ID in your browser opens it.
From public games with at least 3 people, your profile also keeps a skill rating, for all boards together and for each board you played: two numbers, how many games they count, and the day of the last one. It comes from the order in which the players finished those games; nothing else you do in a game counts. The game does not show it to you or to other players. We keep it to prepare ranked play, which will match players of a similar skill. It is part of your profile, so it is deleted with it.
If you sign in with Google or Discord, we keep the ID number that service gives your account, so the same profile opens on every device where you sign in. We do not ask for your email address. The service also sends your name and picture there. We use only the name, and only on your first sign-in: we ask you once whether to make it your nickname (from Google, only your first name), keep it only if you say yes, and otherwise forget it within 30 minutes. We do not keep the picture. When you sign out on a device, the profile stays with the account.
We delete a profile that nobody opens for 13 months, or for 3 years when it is signed in. You can delete yours at any time: open your profile from your piece at the top of the page, then Account. Deleting it also ends the sign-in.
Game records
We keep a record of each game: the board, the rules, and every move with its time, such as rolls, purchases, trades, bids, and when players disconnect or leave. A record has no names, no chat text, no IP addresses and no browser IDs. In a record, each player is only player 1, player 2 and so on, so we cannot connect a record to you.
We use game records to find bugs, to balance the rules, to make the game better, and to build and train bots and other AI models. They contain no personal data, so we keep them without a time limit, and we can publish them or share them, for example as research data.
Usage statistics
To learn how people use the game, we count visits and what happens in them: the pages you open, your device type, screen size, language and theme, the site you came from, the rooms you make and join, the games you play and how they end, the ads that play, and connection problems. When you open one of our links that names the place where we posted it, such as ?ref=reddit, we keep that name with the visit and take it out of the address. A random visitor ID in your browser's local storage connects your visits. It is not the ID that keeps your seat, and we do not connect it to your nickname, your IP address or other sites. Before you tell us your age, we count your visit for that page load only, without the visitor ID.
We keep usage statistics for 13 months and use them only to run and improve the game. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, they are off until you turn them on here.
Crash reports
When the game has an error in your browser, it sends the error message, the place in the code, the page, and the versions of your browser and system. Crash reports are sent also when usage statistics are off, but then they have no ID.
Where the data is
Profiles, player reports, game records, usage statistics and crash reports stay on our own server. We do not sell personal data, and we do not give usage statistics to advertisers or other companies.
Why we may use it
We process this data because we have a legitimate interest in running a fair game that works, and in making it better. You can object at any time: turn off usage statistics above, or write to us.
Stored in your browser
A copy of your profile, your theme, motion setting, volume, dismissed tips, which panels you folded, whether you are under 13, your choice about usage statistics and the visitor ID are saved in your browser's local storage. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings. While you sign in, a cookie holds the sign-in for at most 10 minutes; it is deleted when the sign-in ends.
Advertising
The game is free because it shows ads. Our ad partners may use cookies or similar technology to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time. Read how Google uses data from partner sites at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. When you play on a game portal, the portal's own privacy policy also applies.
Players under 13
Before your first game, we ask your age. We keep only whether you are under 13, in your browser and in your profile. Players under 13 can play, but we collect less: they cannot sign in, their profile keeps no name and no skill rating, no usage statistics and no visitor ID, crash reports without an ID, no full-screen ads, and only banner ads that are not personalized. They get a name that the game picks, they chat only with the ready-made messages, and they cannot write trade notes. Their games are recorded like all games, with no names.
If you are a parent and think that we hold data about your child, write to us and we will delete what we can find.
Your rights
You can delete your profile yourself, under Look in your profile. You can also ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by email. To find your usage statistics, send us the visitor ID shown above. We cannot find your game records, because nothing in them points to you.
